A Typical Session

An ideal session is 90 minutes and takes place on a plush and comfortable mat on the floor. Pillows and additional supports are provided as needed. Clients wear loose fitting clothing that allows for movement and relaxation. (Exercise wear is ideal.)

After client assessment, a session is individualized to focus on the intent of the treatment which is usually falls into three categories: a) general stress and anxiety b) low energy that needs to be raised or c) specialized work to address specific needs.

Each session begins with Centering to bring the client to a state relaxation and receptivity. Centering also helps to create a safe meeting place for mind and body to connect, allowing for expansion of the senses. It is at this time the client is given an opportunity to set and intention and the practitioner is able to share in this intention during a brief meditation.

Techniques known as “palming” and “thumbing” to activate and open the sen (Thai energy lines) are used early in the message. The primary focus of Thai massage is to open pathways so that energy may flow freely. In Western standards, the body is warmed up and circulation increased so that it may be taken to the deeper stretches and muscle work that Thai massage is known for. After the body is sufficiently warmed up, the practitioner moves to more advanced techniques appropriate for the individual client.

The massage is completed with either soothing or energizing touch, depending on the clients’ needs. In addition, after the massage is finished and the client has had time to relax and feel the effects, specific exercises in breath work, stretching or visualization may be given to order to assist the client in reaching their wellness goals.
